** Windows7 and Windows Vista users - Due to User Access Control (UAC) it may be impossible, for some Windows configuration, to install the software on the C:\Program Files directory. In that case you can always install the software on user's home or other directory. Note that installation is designed to run with privileged for instllaing under C:\Program Files and is designed to grant full-access control to installation directory that is used to store cashe files of the software. So basically there is no need to run the software as administrator. If you still get "Access Denied" error, try to run as administrator (Right click Rhizome Browser shortcut, run as administrator. See image). If you still get an error on software startup please inform us by sending the invoked error report. Read more...

Important: On first startup after installation, Rhizome Browser presents you with a dialog for setting peer name. Setting the peer name is essential for operation and allow community services and interaction with peer-to-peer network. Defining a peer doesn't mean automatic connection to p2p network. By default you offline until you push the "connect" button. You may optionally sign up in advance and import account settings when defining peer name, so we can offer you more help by recognising your member-id.

  3. Free space on Hard Disk: 80M

  5. Java Runtime Environment version 6 (or higher)

Good to know:

Rhizome Browser requires Java Runtime 6 to be installed on your system. As part of download procedure the download page try to detect if your system includes JRE6. This test however can not give 100% guarantee. For example, if you had JRE6 installed and you uninstalled it, browsers such as Firefox, Opera and Safari may still detect Java association, possibly of older version. If you are not sure that your system's JRE is updated, the best practice is simply visit this link http://www.java.com/en and install the latest Java Runtime suitable with your Operating System. Alternatively you can download Rhizome Browser with bundled JRE, currently available for windows only. Once you install the most updated JRE6 and allow the automatic update feature you fixed and open your system system for wide range of Desktop applications and RIA (Reach Internet Apps ).

Note: The Firefox 3.6 browser requires Java SE 6 Update 10 or later. Otherwise, Java-based web applications will not work.

Start from command line

Note: Windows users can skip this section.

Rhizome browser installation supply execution command file that is used to launch the software. Windows users uses a shortcut on the start menu, that call this command file, so they should not normally deals with command line execution. Linux/Unix users should invoke manually the command file for Linux/Unix that is located at: [install directory]/bin/run.sh .

For other systems, and cross system behaviour here is a schematic command line you can use to launch the browser:

First initialization

Rhizome Browser is an RHZEnvironment application based on RHZ-Open-Components technology. This is the same technology you will use to create your applications. As such it uses a reusable components that are installed once into their instance cache. This is happen on the first initialization or when cache is cleared. Accordingly first initialization takes longer (few minutes) and you will see the cache installation messages on the progress bar. At the next time you start the Rhizome Browser, caches are already installed, so startup takes few seconds.

Note that installation is setup to point the Rhizome Browser's environment and load it from where it was installed on the installation directory. Do not change the insulation directory this location when do the first initialization and let it load from there. In the future you will find that you can use the startup dialog to load also other environments (for example, different versions of the browser or event your own IDE).
